Storytelling Extraordinaire - Meena McDonald - Shares Her Tips for Good Marketing and Career Growth
Stories - we all love them, have them and tell them but for some reason, when it comes to storytelling for business, some of us tend to freeze (especially in a B2B context).
My guest, Meena McDonald, Marketing Communications Expert can tell the most brilliant stories about virtually anything (yes, even things like plasters!). She captivated the attention of a full set of marketers at a recent event I attended (starting her talk with a story about a plaster/parts manufacturer) and that’s how I can vouch for her storytelling skills (we were transfixed!). So I am absolutely delighted to have her on the podcast.

Don't overthink it.
Stories come in all shapes and sizes. Your story doesn’t have to be long, doesn’t have to be about something exciting (Meena’s memorable story was a about the back of a plaster and didn’t involve any dramatic events), and doesn’t have to be in written form (think podcasts, webinar, speech etc). It just has to contain emotion.
2. Prioritise ruthlessly.
A marketer’s To Do list is endless and the temptation is scattering your efforts in too many directions. Pick the most important goals to the business, and tasks that need to be accomplished and then focus your efforts accordingly. Executing fewer marketing activities - but doing them well - leads to better results.
3. Do what you love
Doing what you love in your career makes it easier to succeed because usually what you enjoy doing is what you’re good at (yay! And I couldn’t agree more).
4. Make them laugh
Effective marketing often involves humour and relatability.
